From a messy Home to a project

Promote scattered layout items into a real doc you can keep in Projects.

See what is on Home

Open Home. Scan Notes for layout items that belong to a topic. Open the Docs tab — every row here is a top-level project or a stray Doc. No docs yet means you only have Notes to file.

Create the project

Choose New Doc and name it after the topic (not Untitled if you can help it). Open that Doc. This is the project everything related will live under.

Park the work

On the project, use New Doc for each pile that needs its own page. Copy or recreate Notes layout items from Home into the project Notes, then delete the leftovers on Home. Nested Docs inherit shares later if you grant the project.

Keep Home thin

Leave Home for inbox lines and unfiled ideas. New ongoing work starts as a Doc under a project, not as another untitled row on Home.
